Wild Tasmania is a journey off the beaten track. An expedition to the lesser explored regions of our small island. It’s a trip for those with a passion for big tree hunting. A journey for people seeking a connection with the source of their food. This is no ordinary tour, this is the adventure of a lifetime.

We begin with a feast for the senses onboard a luxury catamaran. On the Deep to Dish Tasmanian Wild Seafood Adventure, you will be welcomed with oysters as the catamaran cruises down the majestic River Derwent. Indulge in a cheese and fruit platter with Tasmanian sparkling, wine or craft beer as the boat passes spectacular sea cliffs on the way to Bruny Island. See the divers emerge with periwinkles and sea urchins and watch the chef prepare urchin and abalone for you to taste. We visit Dennes Point on Bruny Island where mussels and oysters grow freely before heading into the beautiful D’entrecasteaux Channel where you will be served mussels and periwinkles before heading to the Port Huon Marina.

We enjoy dinner and spend the night at Kermandie Hotel in the heart of the picturesque Huon Valley. This is country hospitality at its best with spacious rooms, a bar and dining room serving local produce. After a cooked breakfast, we head to Tahune Adventures. Here, we walk under some of the oldest and tallest flowering trees with a world-renowned ecologist, then head to the treetops on the Tahune airwalk. Soak in the views as we go further south. Head underground at Hastings Caves with a specialist guide to get the low-down on a dramatic dolomite cave, one of only two of its kind in Australia.

After another restful night at Kermandie Hotel we board a seaplane. Sit back and enjoy the breathtaking scenery as we fly to Bathurst Harbour in southwest Tasmania. Expect some of the most dramatic landscapes on the planet with rugged quartzite mountain peaks, wild rivers and extensive waterways. There are no roads to this part of Tasmania, you are deep in the remote World Heritage Listed wilderness. This is an opportunity to stop and breathe. Glide along the calm mirror-reflection waters of Bathurst Harbour and soak in the serenity. This is nature at its purest.

Explore the tree-lined beaches and a beautiful collection of small islands – Celery Top Islands – before we head to our secluded Wilderness Camp which will be home for the next two nights. This will be your base for exploration – whether it is climbing Mt Beattie to take in the views, wandering the beaches or exploring the serene Bathurst Harbour. Bring your camera, this is a photographer’s paradise.

We leave the solitude of the southwest and fly to the stunning northeast coast. It’s time to meet the palawa people, the traditional owners of lutruwita/Tasmania on the wukalina Walk. This award-winning four day/three-night walk is unlike any walk in the world. You will be led on foot by palawa guides to learn about their ancestral connections with land and sea. The wukalina Walk is the rare opportunity to deepen and expand your understanding of the Tasmanian Aboriginal culture and the strong community that exists while exploring a beautiful region of Tasmania.

Meet elders, try bush tucka, take part in a smoking ceremony and cultural activities such as weaving, making clapsticks and stringing shells. Encounter wombats, wallabies and sea eagles as you walk along beaches and over rocky headlands. The walk will be broken up with stories and interpretations. For dinner, try traditional food including wallaby, mutton bird and doughboys. Sleep in architecturally designed domed huts set within the coastal heathland at krakani lumi camp for the first two nights, then in a beautifully restored lightkeepers cottage on the third night in larapuna/Bay of Fires. This enriching, intimate and unique experience will stay with you forever.
