Lunch at the Kermandie Hotel

Enjoy a delicious lunch with a view. Built in 1932, the Kermandie Hotel remains the heart of Port Huon, offering charming, comfortable accommodation, great food (lunch & dinner), a fully restored bar and its own marina.

THE EXPERIENCE

See why the pretty city of Hobart is so loved as we drive past the Georgian sandstone warehouses of Salamanca Place and into the winding streets and small laneways of Battery Point with its perfectly restored colonial buildings. Hear the stories of convict labour to construct Hobart. You will feel like you have stepped back in time.

Enjoy the ride up to the summit of kunanyi/Mt Wellington. The 21-kilometre drive goes through temperate rainforest and sub-alpine flora and past glacial rock formations. At the summit you will have spectacular panoramic views of Hobart, the River Derwent, Bruny Island and the Huon Valley. If the weather doesn’t permit, we will head to Mount Nelson Signal Station instead which offers stunning views at a lower level.

Next, we drive deeper into the Huon Valley, hugging the river as we wind through the countryside toward Tahune Adventures.

Before we reach our destination, we stop at the historic Kermandie Hotel. Built in 1932, the charming Kermandie remains the heart of Port Huon. Here you can enjoy a delicious lunch with spectacular views over its private marina on the Huon River.

After lunch we venture into the forest at Tahune, where we will spend two hours exploring the forest. Walk among the treetops on the Airwalk – a steel canopy that overlooks the forest floor 50 metres below. Breathe deep as you do a forest walk and be brave as you cross the river on a swinging bridge. Follow the Huon Pine Trail to admire and smell one of Australia’s oldest living trees.

For the thrill-seekers, there’s an optional extra to go on the Cable Eagle Hang Glider. Be whisked 250 metres across the Huon River at speeds of up to 40 km per hour.

Find out how fire has affected the forest and see first-hand the natural regeneration that occurs in a forest environment.
